Don't miss the very special and exclusive SS 1 & SS 2 90th Anniversary Tour and Celebrate 90 years since the launch of the very first SS cars with a week’s touring in rural and historic Warwickshire which is planned for the 12th to 19th September 2021.

We will be starting the Tour by joining the Club event at the amazing Statfold Barn narrow gauge steam railway near Tamworth on Sunday 12th September, then driving to the hotel where will be staying for the whole Tour.

Over the next 5 days we will be exploring some of the most interesting places in Warwickshire, in a programme, which, will include the Black Country Open Air Museum at Dudley, Shakespeare's home town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Swallow Road (where all the SSs, SS Jaguars and Jaguars up to 1954 were built) Coventry Cathedral and Motor Museum both in the heart of the City, Kenilworth Castle, Warwick itself and culminating in a very special day at Sir William and Lady Lyons’ former home at Wappenebury Hall on Saturday 18th September.

VISIT SCHEDULE

The tour will start from Statfold Barn Railway near Tamworth (B79 0BU), joining other JDC members, where we will have allocated parking; www.statfold.com. The following day, we will begin our tour of Warwickshire from our base at the hotel in Stratford, visiting the medieval fortress-cum-Elizabethan palace of Kenilworth Castle, and Warwick with its Norman castle and historic town centre.

On the following day, we head for Coventry, historic centre of the British car industry and City of Culture 2021 (www.coventry2021.co.uk), with visits to Holbrook Lane – home of Swallow sidecars, SS and Jaguar cars from 1928 to 1955 – before seeing Coventry Cathedral followed by lunch in the Guildhall. After lunch, we visit Coventry Transport Museum, with its huge collection of British-made cars.

On Wednesday, the tour moves on to Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon and the following day, we visit Gaydon to see the British Motor Museum and Jaguar Collections Centre, then move on to Ryton to Jaguar Land Rover Classic.

On Friday, we tour Dudley and visit the fascinating Black Country Living Museum, just 10 miles from Birmingham, where award-winning displays tell the story of the industrial revolution in a series of open-air tableaux.

Saturday rounds up the tour with a visit to Wappenbury Hall, former home of Sir William and Lady Lyons, to celebrate the 90th anniversary, followed by a gala dinner at the hotel.

SMALL PRINT: Preference for places on this tour will be given to Swallow, SS and Jaguar cars up to and including the Mk V. However, subject to room availability, all Jaguars and Daimlers will be welcome to join us. The price of £900 per person includes dinner, bed and breakfast (unless otherwise stated) based on two people sharing a double or twin room. Single occupancy price on application. The itinerary for this tour is provisional and may be subject to change depending on Covid restrictions.
