This year's National Day at Whittlebury Park saw the inauguration of the RIWAX Trophy, a new competition for Club Members who put a lot of effort into keeping their car in excellent condition but do not, for whatever reason, want to compete in concours.
The competition was open to anyone who had not previously taken part in concours and wanted to enter a Jaguar or Daimler for the first time without having to go to the lengths required of the JDC's full blown concours competiiton.
The Jaguar Drivers’ Club were delighted to welcome RIWAX as sponsors for this new event, a company founded in 1967 that has been providing high quality service and product innovation in the world of car cleaning for almost 60 years. The RIWAX Trophy was presented to the overall winners, John and Liz Alcock with their superb 1965 Jaguar E-Type, GYM 280C. They keep the trophy for 12 months, but will need to return it to the JDC before next year’s National Day so it can be presented to the 2026 winner. In addition to the Trophy they received £530 worth of RIWAX detailing products including a dual action polisher to help them do even more work on their car.
First runner-up was Anthony Evans with his Flamenco Red XJS (N10 JVC), who received £50 of Riwax detailing products.
Gary Mullaney was second runner-up, with his silver Daimler Double-Six Series III (J115 RDU) and he received £20 of Riwax detailing products.
The competition was for members who use their cars more regularly than other concours entrants and judging was limited to the exterior (including wheels and tyres) and the Interior. In addition to the general cleanliness and condition of the car the judges took a little time to talk to the owners and consider the provenance and use of the vehicle ensuring the prize wasn't just about the condition of the car but about the people behind it as well.
Under bonnet and underside of the car were not judged.
At least one of the cars was so well detailed that it would have performed well in the standard concours competition and maybe next year its owner will promote it to the 'Premier' division.
