However, we do have a good idea of what the new cars will look like, thanks to Autocar and the mag’s picture editor/ artist extraordinaire, Ben Summerell- Youde, who has kindly shared these images with Jaguar Driver. While these are artist’s impressions, Autocar is usually the first to know, so we can be confident they are not far off.
The first will be a £100k-plus four-door GT concept which, according to Jaguar, will be a copy of nothing that has gone before. The new car is said to have a range of more than 435 miles, super-fast charging and a power train delivering 575bhp. This will be the first in a trio of new vehicles, to include a luxury SUV and a limousine, due to arrive in 2028.
Jaguar is apparently ‘rethinking’ the basic design principles of the EV as we know it and although we are not yet privy to any official photos of the concepts, the mainstream magazines have been speculating, with the help of their art departments. Autocar is the most credible and, if their images are as spot-on as usual, they certainly challenge the conventional norms of current EVs. ‘Long, probing bonnets and minimalist, imposing front ends’ are, to quote Felix Page and Steve Cropley, what we are likely to see. The SUV has been likened to Bentley’s luxury Bentayga in size and concept, although Autocar’s imagery reminds me equally of a futuristic Range Rover.
Jaguar MD Raudon Glover is reported to have said that the GT will be unveiled not in the UK but in America – a nod to the crucial part the US market will play in Jaguar’s sales. Deliveries of the new GT won’t begin in the UK until 2026 at the earliest, which leaves a gap of another year-and-a-half at least without a new Jaguar on sale.
