October 2024 | Issue 771 | Page(s) 3 | Gaynor Cauter

If anyone thinks, for one moment, that things are slowing down on the car front, have I got news for you! I’m writing this (and signing off another bumper issue of JD) sandwiched between a rather wet Statfold and one of the biggest events on our Club calendar – Champion of Champions at Gaydon – in two days’ time.

We have five finalists this year, however, it’s not about quantity but quality - something these cars have in spades. You’ll have to wait until the November issue to find out who won, although I expect someone will have spilled the beans on Facebook long before then.

Before I launch into what’s happening next, I’d like to welcome Paul Guinness to our team, reviewing the somewhat volatile car market for us every two months in Under the Hammer, alternating with a buyer’s guide to individual models. Paul is a motoring journalist of long experience and I know you will find his insights and views of great interest.

One glance out of the window tells me it’s autumn, but there are still things to do and see this month, starting with the last round of our 4-Hills and Sprint Championship at the beautiful seaside circuit of Anglesey. On Saturday the 5th, Steve Hawke and I will be joining Roger and new JDC member Steven Knight for what we hope will be the inaugural meeting of a new Club Area in North Wales, while on the Sunday we will be cheering on our 4-Hills competitors. See Roger’s Chairman’s page in Club News for more details.

Another member rallying the troops for a final autumn outing is Eric Uttley, who has made quite a comeback at Area 62 Yorkshire Coast. Hot on the heels of his very successful Jaguars of Yorkshire event at RAF Snaith Museum, he has organised another outing, this time to The Malton Motor Co. on Sunday 6 October. If you fancy joining him, see Area News and the ad at the back of the magazine but be warned – it’s pre-booked only!

Still in October, I don’t need to remind you that we will be back at Stoneleigh on Sunday the 20th for Jaguar Spares Day which, as those of you who are regulars will know, is as much a social occasion as a serious parts-hunting exercise. We will be there with the Club shop, as will most of the usual traders, and there might still be time to book yourself a table or space to sell a few unwanted items or even a car, but hurry! Call 07305 907675, email info@jaguarsparesdays.co.uk or go to www.jaguarsparesdays.co.uk. Full details are in the calendar at the back of the magazine and the various advertisements.

We still have the Lancaster Classic Motor Show at the NEC to come on 8-10 November and the Club will be in Hall 1 again this year with some very special cars on the stand. After that… it’s Christmas! Look out for our special festive merchandise four-pager in the centre of the November magazine and get your orders in early – what better gift for a Jaguar-loving friend or relative than one of our top-quality jackets, tops or caps? Even if they don’t own a Jaguar, they can still spread the love!
