As the XJ220
was signedoff
and the
model put
into production by
Jaguar Sport at its own
Bloxham facility there
was no requirement to
find space at Browns Lane. This allowed
the proposed replacement for the XJS to
be assembled at the site. The new X100
was to be a return to Jaguar’s sporting
heritage and a far cry from what had been available since 1975. Although at
the time Ford had not sanctioned an XJS
replacement, they had commissioned
design studies for a revised or new XJS
and several alternative designs were
forthcoming from Ford USA, Jaguar and
Ghia of Turin (the Ford-owned design
group). These designs and small models
were reviewed by the Ford and Jaguar
Boards and from the various studies
four, examples were chosen to be built
as full-size clay mock-ups to be ready
for viewing in late 1991.
