Often overshadowed by its Mk 2 contemporary, the S-Type continues to offer a rewarding driving experience at a highly tempting price

Coming to market four years after the Mk 2 and bearing more than a passing resemblance to its stablemate was the S-Type, combining a Mk 2-like front end with a shrunken Mk 10-looking rear. It meant a longer boot and a flatter rear roofline, as well as squared-off rear wheelarches and thinner bumpers. More importantly, though, the S-Type also featured a derivation of the Mk 10’s independent rear suspension (IRS) in place of the Mk 2’s live axle.
