Apart from three Jaguar Breakfast Club meetings to get us warmed up (metaphorically speaking), I don’t feel the show season has really begun until we get to the Resto Show of 21-23 of this month (see our preview further on).
Apart from a very full calendar of events, which you will find at the back of the mag, we also have some very good news on several fronts. The first concerns any member living in the Somerset or Dorset areas because Jamie Henderson - of Classic S-Type fame - has agreed to take on the running of Area 8. Please give him your full support and if you live in the West Country, drop him a line at jamiejaguarstype@gmail.com – he would be delighted to hear from you.
Our next bit of news is that Rob Piper will be taking over the running of the X-Type Register. A real devotee of the model, Rob is keen to raise the profile of these often-overlooked Jaguars. I know we have plenty of X-Type owners in the Club so I urge you to please get in touch with Rob and help him keep the Register ball rolling. As I mentioned last month, Rob Hawkins will be joining us in April with a new bi-monthly technical series, which includes a Q&A for members with car problems, particularly modern ones. Over the months, Rob will be tackling a range of jobs, some of which you can have a go at yourselves and others that will give you the heads-up when you entrust it to a garage. Elsewhere in the magazine, you will find booking details and prices for our National Weekend at Whittlebury Park, where Nic Drukker is hoping to stage an XJ-S timeline to celebrate the model’s 50th. We will also be supporting several XJS 50 shows and displays hosted by the XJS Club – see the calendar for details.
I am delighted to say that our friends in the Jaguar Breakfast Club have secured a rather special venue for Supercharged Saturday, which had to move from its usual home at Gaydon. This is the flagship Breakfast Club meeting and, in the past, has attracted as many as 700 Jaguars and Daimlers, so what better place to hold it than the Silverstone Museum on 31 May? You will need to book in advance, so look out for details at www.jbc.org.uk.
Finally, I have just heard that Ken McConomy, Global Head of PR for JLR, will be joining us at the Club’s AGM on Saturday 26 April at Gaydon. I urge you to try and be there, not only to give Ken a hearty JDC welcome, but to hear what the Directors have in hand for the future of your Club.
