Here we are in July and this year’s 4-Hills & Sprint Championship is well underway, so it’s probably time for a quick roundup of the events so far, starting with the hillclimb at Harewood.
Getting ready for the first event of the year always involves a great deal of effort, particularly when you decide to pull a car out of retirement, as Anthony Taylor did with his Aristocat prototype. Built in 1984, it had been languishing in the barn for several years so a replacement crankshaft was called for and while he was at it, Anthony swapped in a Getrag five-speed to give him some grip on the tight hill bends. A 15-minute test up the M65 the night before was all it got (due to pressure of the day job) with grandson Noah acting as assistant mechanic for what Anthony and his wife Carolyn describe as a ‘vast increase in pocket money’.
