Jaguar’s best-known compact saloon of the 1960s still makes a great buy and although its popularity means it’s not necessarily the best value, there are some bargains out there

Building on the success of the old ‘Mk 1’ was the new for- 1959 Jaguar Mk 2, based around its predecessor but looking substantially different thanks to a major increase in glass area, a redesigned grille and new-look lights. Mechanically, meanwhile, there were plenty of familiar features, including 2.4- and 3.4-litre versions of the XK engine, now complemented by a range-topping 3.8-litre version.
