If you’re looking for a smart but usable XJ-S Convertible, this 1988 V12 model – finished in its original and attractive colour of Alpine Green Metallic – looks a tempting proposition at £9995. It’s had just three owners from new, the most recent having bought the car way back in 1991. Sadly, however, he passed away recently, so his Jaguar is hitting the market for the first time in 34 years.
This XJ-S comes with a hefty history file, itemising what’s been spent on parts and servicing throughout the car’s career.
It’s had plenty of work carried out over the years, including a full suspension rebuild, replacement steering rack, new brakes and a brand-new hood in the early ‘noughties’. A complete bare-metal respray was carried out in 2010, at which point any corrosion issues were sorted; the selling dealer says it’s still ‘presenting immaculately throughout’.
Having covered 148,000 miles, this is obviously a well-used example of its type. But with just one enthusiast owner for the last three-and-a-half decades, it appears to have been cherished and maintained extremely well. It has apparently also been stored in the dry from new.
