JDC Members in National Finals

08 October 2024 | Club News

JDC members will be taking part in the finals of two major competitions at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC from 8-10 November.

After winning his category at National Day, stunt driver legend Russ Swift and his 1937 SS Jaguar 100 have been selected as one of 20 finalists in the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership’s Autumn Final.

This is Russ’ dream car. He explains: “I’d wanted to own one of these cars since childhood and can remember drawing pictures of them in my school books. I first encountered this one at the British Grand Prix in 1988 where I was performing displays, and spotted it as part of a track parade.”

Between 1966 and 1984, the SS was on display at the Midland Motor Museum and Stratford-upon-Avon Motor Museum, having only covered 6000 miles since its restoration in 1973. Since buying the car last year, Russ has added another 1500 miles to that total, and it has already appeared at many events this year.

With over 100 entries, the Autumn Final of the Pride of Ownership competition invites visitors to the show to vote for their favourite of the finalists – so make sure you visit the display in Hall 3 and make your vote count. The winner will be revealed by Wheeler Dealers’ host Mike Brewer on Sunday at 2pm.

Fresh from the final of the Champion of Champions, James Tetherton and his 1996 XJS Celebration Convertible will compete in the Meguiar’s Club Showcase.

Some 16 cars, cited as the ‘best of the best’ from the club show season, will face meticulous scrutiny from expert judges with the winner revealed on Sunday at 12noon.

James' XJS is the very last of these cars to be built and was a part of the James Hull collection before being purchased by Jaguar themselves. James bought the car at auction three years ago. After facing the judges at National Day and Jaguars at Gaydon, James is used to the judging process and we're sure he'll do the club proud.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show has a lot to celebrate this year as it marks 40 years since it first opened its doors in 1984. With exciting new features as well as the usual favourites, more motoring clubs than ever before with over 330 organisations attending – which means over 3,000 cars and motorbikes – and a fantastic line-up of experts and personalities, there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Visitors will be invited to welcome four inductees into the prestigious new Hall of Fame. The inductees have contributed to the classic motoring scene as well as the show in the categories of Industry Ambassador, Community Ambassador, Motoring Club and Classic Car.

Fans of motoring podcasts are in for a treat in the new Podcast Lounge as some of your favourites such as Auto Alex, Driven, My Dad’s Car, TyreKickers UK and many more record an episode in front of a live audience. Get your seats early as space is limited!

Motoring fans of all ages should head to the new DadCars Family Zone where they will find activities such as motoring treasure hunts, colouring, and competitions as well as Roadster Magazine and the Mini Rovers driving experience.

Make sure to Meet the Experts where you will find informative panels on all things motoring, along with famous faces such as Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer, YouTubers such as Auto Alex, Top Dead Centre, HubNut, and I Drive a Classic.

If you want to do more than look at cars, visit the Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides where there will be 80-100 cars, ranging from sports to super cars, classics to muscle motors, offering a ten-mile passenger ride in exchange for a donation to their children’s charities.

Maybe you like getting your hands dirty but need some help and advice? Then Restoration Workshop is the place for you as the team from Gilbert Michaelson will be on hand to share their knowledge and demonstrate their skills.

Add to this an epic car and motorcycle sale by Iconic Auctioneers, a hall of dealers, specialist traders and a huge indoor autojumble, making it the must visit season finale of the motoring calendar.
