Trophies for JDC at Yorkshire Elegance

10 July 2024 | Club News

Yorkshire Elegance is billed as the ‘North of England’s most prestigious classic car event’ and it certainly lived up to that this year. Held at the fabulous Grantley Hall over three days, it attracted the very finest cars and celebrated 70 years of the Jaguar D-Type.

But what thrilled us the most were the wins for two of our club members, both of whom took home very well-deserved trophies. The first of them was Matt Birtwistle who many of you will know as the reigning JDC concours Champion of Champions, as well as being the winner of the 2023 Meguiar’s Club Showcase. Competing in the Pre-1970 UK Cars category he was up against some tough competition, but it was his very desirable 1950 XK120 OTS that took top honours. Congratulations from all of us Matt!

Our other big winner in Yorkshire was James Tetherton who was the victor in the Car Club’s Choice concours with his much-admired XJS. Already a winner of the XJS concours at our National Day earlier in the month, his car saw off some stiff competition from legendary marques that included the likes of Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, De Tomaso and more. That makes his top spot all the sweeter as far as we’re concerned.

James is no stranger to competitions, of course, as anyone who attended last November’s Classic Motor Show at the NEC will know. His wonderful 1982 Ford Fiesta XR2 was one of the finalists entered for the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership award, so his talents aren’t just confined to Jaguars!

But back to Yorkshire Elegance, and to have both of the cars above finish in the top four of the show’s winner’s circle is a real achievement for Matt and James. They certainly made everyone at the Club proud, and we’re pretty sure it won’t be the last time we see their cars walking away with the top prize.
