Plenty of silverware presented at this year's National Day

It was a hectic day for Jaguar Drivers’ Club judges on Sunday, August 3rd, as two teams headed by Director of Concours, Gareth Jones, thoroughly inspected a wide range of models competing for a multitude of prizes – with this year’s launch of a new, separate RIWAX Trophy bringing extra competition.

Overall winners of the inaugural RIWAX trophy, a ‘pride of ownership’ style competition, were John and Liz Alcock with their superb 1965 Jaguar E-Type, GMY 280C.

First runner-up was Anthony Evans and his Flamenco Red XJS (N10 JVC), with the silver Daimler Double-Six Series III (J115 RDU) of Gary Mullaney being announced as second runner-up.

UK Distributor RIWAX generously donated a range of car care prizes for the inaugural RIWAX Trophy, with the overall winner being awarded a RIWAX dual-action machine polisher and storage bag plus a selection of detailing and polishing products, while the two runner-up car owners each received a selection of RIWAX car detailing products. Judging was carried out by Paul Crowther, Andy Brooks and Steve Hawke from the Jaguar Drivers’ Club.

Gareth Jones commented: “Having the support of RIWAX for the launch of a new competition was wonderful, and we managed to attract a wide variety of gleaming Jaguars and proud owners.”

Meanwhile, the National Day’s separate Club Concours also proved to be hotly contested, with judges Gareth Jones (responsible for engine bay and boot), David Lindsay and Neil Henderson (exterior), David Williams (interior) and Nigel Dodman (underside) working hard throughout much of the day, ably assisted by the admin skills of Sheila Jones and Lesley Lindsay.

The winner of Class A proved to be Nigel Bowen Easley with his Jaguar MkV Drophead (SXS 144), which now qualifies for the Jaguar Drivers’ Club’s Champion of Champions, set to take place at the JDHT Collections Centre, Gaydon, on September 21st.

Also scoring enough points in Class A to be put forward for Champion of Champions was Martin Green’s Jaguar XK150 S (873 UYN).

Coming away with two concours awards was Bryan Mander, who won Class B with his Series III E-Type (AJW 278M) and Class C with his Jaguar Mk2 (RLN 883E), the latter now qualifying for Champion of Champions.

The same applies to the winner of Class D, the superb XJS Convertible (N15 XJS) of James Tetherton, a previous Champion of Champions finalist.

Nigel Heywood’s Jaguar ‘X300’ Executive (J10 VJJ) was awarded top spot in Class E, while Class F victory went to Andy Brooks’ Jaguar XJR (BN56 TJV), which will be seen again as a Champion of Champions contender.

Commenting on the Jaguar Drivers’ Club’s National Day results, Gareth added: “The standard of this year’s Concours was extraordinarily high, with astonishing levels of attention to detail. We now have our five qualifying for Champion of Champions and can’t wait to see who will be crowned this year’s winner.”
