Of the 110 cars entered, just two of those were Jaguars, and both crossed the finish line after an event that hadn’t been short of drama. The first of them, ending in 30th place, was the 1953 XK120 OTS of British crew, Jan Hutchings and Andrew Clutterbuck, and just two places further back was the 1958 240 Mk 1 driven by Joost Bert with Tim Motte as navigator. All definitely deserve our congratulations.
There is more success for Jaguars to report, these coming on two of the excellent Rally the Globe events. The first was the Vintage Shamrock, which covers more than 500 miles as it explores the likes of the Connacht mountains and Atlantic Coast, and has proved immensely popular over the last few years. Recording excellent results throughout each day’s tests and regularity sections, the overall winners were Stephen Owens and Nick Bloxham in their 1937 SS100.

The next event on the calendar was June’s Carrera Bavaria, a 1300-mile run through stunning scenery, and Category B for classics was won by the 1963 E-Type of Simon and Juanita Brien. Simon also took the award for the ‘Best on Tests’. Just behind them in second place was Clint and Dawn Smith’s 1961 XK150 Roadster, so there was much to celebrate for enthusiasts. With two more Jaguars finishing in the top twelve it was a very successful event, and we look forward to more of the same in the future.
If you’d like to compete in your own car then we’d certainly encourage you to visit the HERO-ERA and Rally the Globe websites. You’ll find details of all their forthcoming events, and if you do take part we’d love to hear about how you got on.
