In a remarkable display of ingenuity and reverence for British motoring history, Eagle E-Types of Sussex have unveiled the Lightweight GTR, a road-legal grand tourer that redefines what it means to drive a Jaguar E-Type.
With a laser focus on performance, style and comfort, this latest creation channels the spirit of Jaguar’s legendary racers while delivering an experience that is both thrilling and refined for today’s enthusiast.
Eagle’s reputation as the global leader in Jaguar E-Type restoration and enhancement is well established. Their acclaimed Special Editions—including the Speedster, Spyder GT, Low Drag GT and Lightweight GT—have earned praise in automotive circles worldwide. The Lightweight GTR stands out not only as the road-going successor to the rarest E-Type race cars, but also as a tangible link to Jaguar’s storied racing lineage.

Originally, just a dozen Lightweight E-Types were built by Jaguar, intended as the follow-up to the famous D-Type. Now, Eagle, guided by a commissioning client seeking uncompromising authenticity, has created a vehicle that is lighter, faster and more focused than ever before.
At the heart of the Lightweight GTR lies a meticulously engineered 4.7-litre straight-six engine, boasting a wide-angle head, triple Weber carburettors, and titanium con-rods. This powerhouse delivers a power-to-weight ratio exceeding 430bhp/ton, aided by extensive use of lightweight materials such as aluminium, magnesium, titanium, Inconel, carbon fibre and lithium.
Eagle’s attention to detail is evident throughout: the body has been resculpted for a purposeful stance, with raked glass, a lowered roofline and flush-bonded rear screen. Distinctive touches like painted badges under lacquer, a flush-mounted aluminium fuel cap, and platinum switches with mother of pearl inlays elevate the GTR to a work of art.

Performance has not come at the expense of comfort. Despite its kerb weight of just 975kg with fluids—over 30% lighter than a standard E-Type Roadster—the GTR offers a spacious, well-appointed cabin trimmed in black Alcantara. Heated glass, air conditioning, and thoughtful sound and heat insulation mean long-distance journeys remain civilised. The minimalist interior, echoing period racing designs, features lightweight aluminium seats, four-point harnesses and a fire suppression system for true race-car authenticity.
The commissioning client’s vision was clear: a car as light as possible, eschewing modern electronic distractions, yet delivering exhilarating performance and timeless beauty. “I couldn’t be happier with the result,” the owner notes, praising Eagle’s ability to combine raw driving dynamics with comfort and craftsmanship. Paul Brace of Eagle echoes this sentiment, highlighting the collaborative spirit that made the GTR possible: “Not only has he achieved his automotive dream, but he has enabled us to push the envelope of what is possible.”
The Eagle Lightweight GTR stands as a testament to what bespoke engineering and passionate vision can achieve. It is, in every sense, a ‘One of One’—an extraordinary fusion of Jaguar heritage, modern technology and individual expression.
