The name combines Jaguar’s celebrated performance heritage with its future-focused vision, introducing the first model in a new generation of vehicles defined by bold design, advanced technology and zero tailpipe emissions.
In the Type 01 name, 'Type' references some of Jaguar’s most iconic predecessors, including the C-type, E-type and F-TYPE. The '0' signals electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the '1' identifies the car as the first Jaguar of this new chapter. The name also appears on the vehicle itself, integrated into the strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen, creating a distinctive graphic signature for future Jaguar models.
Designed, developed and built in the heart of the UK, Type 01 has been created to embody Jaguar’s spirit of originality with unmistakable presence and a unique driving character. Built on an innovative new body architecture, the car is set to be the most advanced Jaguar ever produced. Its tri-motor technology is expected to deliver more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque, underlining the model’s position as a high-performance electric grand tourer.
The revival of the 'Type' designation is especially meaningful for Jaguar. First used on the Le Mans-winning C-type in 1951, it became associated with cars that combined dynamic performance with refinement and composure on the road. By reviving that naming tradition, Jaguar is linking its next generation of electric vehicles to a long-standing legacy of innovation in design, technology and engineering.

Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!’”
Ahead of its full reveal later this year, Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco during the Monaco E-Prix weekend, wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap. The model’s exuberant modernist design, pioneering technology and instinctive driving dynamics will help define the next generation of Jaguar vehicles and signal the direction of the brand’s future.
