Jaguar’s most advanced luxury grand tourer set for global debut after Arctic trials

Jaguar is entering an exciting new chapter as prototypes of its all-electric, luxury four-door GT set out on a rigorous winter testing programme, marking a pivotal moment in the marque’s storied history. As anticipation builds for its official reveal later this year, this new GT is poised to become the most powerful road car Jaguar has ever produced, blending traditional driving pleasure with cutting-edge electric innovation.

This winter, Jaguar engineers have taken to the Arctic Circle, subjecting 150 prototypes to temperatures plummeting as low as minus 40°C. These formidable conditions on frozen Swedish lakes are just one element of the most comprehensive development and validation initiative ever undertaken by Jaguar. The global testing schedule will see these vehicles cover hundreds of thousands of miles, from scorching desert highways to advanced virtual simulations, all designed to ensure the new GT delivers on the brand’s promise of captivating performance, composure, and comfort.

At the heart of the programme is the fine tuning of Jaguar’s advanced electric propulsion and chassis systems. Engineers are calibrating drive modes to guarantee instinctive responses and a calming, luxurious ride in any environment. The tri-motor, all-wheel-drive system, equipped with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, delivers more than 1,000PS, ensuring power is instantly and precisely distributed for supreme handling and confidence in all conditions.

Complementing this is a suite of dynamic technologies, including all-wheel steering, a bespoke 23-inch winter tyre, dynamic air suspension, and active twin-valve dampers. Each system is being meticulously refined to work in harmony, promising a grand tourer with true Jaguar spirit—engaging to drive, yet supremely comfortable.

Winter testing also allows validation of ThermAssistTM, Jaguar’s pioneering onboard thermal management system. Capable of reducing heating energy consumption by up to 40%, it recaptures heat to enhance cabin comfort and propulsion efficiency, even in the harshest cold, safeguarding range and performance.

Matt Becker, Jaguar’s Vehicle Engineering Director, emphasised, “Jaguar has always been about driving pleasure and our new electric four-door GT will be no different. It marks a step-change in our technical ambitions… Like a true Jaguar, it can be comfortable when you wish, is engaging to drive and, with more than 1,000PS, always has power in reserve.”

With the new GT’s design philosophy rooted in Exuberant Modernism, previewed by the striking Type 00 concept, Jaguar’s creative future looks as bold as its engineering. Managing Director Rawdon Glover added, “Our aim from the outset has been to deliver a true Jaguar driving experience and we have crafted a hugely desirable car that will be as captivating to drive as it is to look at.”

The all-electric four-door GT is set for its world premiere later in 2026, heralding a new era for Jaguar while honouring its rich legacy of innovation since 1935. Enthusiasts can look forward to a car that remains “a copy of nothing”—fearlessly unique, emotionally engaging, and unmistakably Jaguar.
