A new CEO has been appointed following Adrian Mardell's retirement

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that P.B. Balaji will take over as Chief Executive Officer in November 2025, following the retirement of Adrian Mardell. This change marks the end of a distinguished era for Mardell, who has served not only as CEO for the past three years but has also dedicated an impressive 35 years of his career to the company. His leadership has been especially notable during a period of significant transformation in the global automotive sector.

Commenting on this leadership change, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Jaguar Land Rover PLC, Tata Motors, and Tata Sons, expressed his gratitude for Mardell’s longstanding commitment and effective stewardship. He emphasised that the decision to appoint Mr. Balaji as the next CEO came after a thorough search over recent months. According to Mr. Chandrasekaran, Mr. Balaji brings a wealth of experience to the role, having been associated with Tata Motors Group for several years and deeply involved with JLR’s strategic direction.

“Balaji has worked closely with our leadership team,” said Mr. Chandrasekaran, “and is well positioned to ensure continuity as the company continues building on its Reimagine strategy.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Mardell expressed pride in JLR’s achievements and gratitude for the support he received. “Leading JLR over the past three years has been a tremendous honour, especially amid the rapid changes facing our industry,” he remarked. He extended his thanks to colleagues across JLR and the wider Tata Group and conveyed his confidence in Mr. Balaji’s ability to guide the company into its next chapter.

Currently the Group Chief Financial Officer of Tata Motors Group, Mr. Balaji responded with enthusiasm to his upcoming appointment. “Having been part of the Tata family for eight years, I am excited to step into this new role,” he said. “I look forward to working alongside the talented JLR team to deliver on our ambitious vision.”

Mr. Balaji’s background includes more than three decades of leadership across global automotive and consumer goods industries, with extensive experience driving transformation. He holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Chennai and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM Kolkata.
