The final look of the car currently presented by Jaguar is still unknown, although it will adopt styling cues from the radical Type 00 concept (pictured), which was unveiled in December 2024 and is currently on a world tour.
In a recent interview, JLR’s CEO, Adrian Mardell, confirmed to Auto Express magazine that a version of the still-unnamed four-door GT – the start of what will be a three-model range of upmarket Jaguar EVs – is set to be unveiled before the end of this year, with production cars finally hitting the road in 2026.
With a six-figure start price, the radical Jaguar GT is being hailed by JLR as “one of the most ambitious models in its long history”, says Auto Express. It will be the first car to employ the new Jaguar Electric Architecture platform, which will ultimately underpin two more high-end Jaguars – likely to comprise a large SUV and a luxury saloon.
Jaguar is pledging a 430-mile range for the initial GT, as well as ultra-fast charging. Jaguar’s MD, Rawdon Glover, describes the technology as “game-changing”, claiming that drivers will be able to add 200 miles of charge in just 15 minutes.
Glover adds that Jaguar’s new style direction will give it an advantage over other premium EVs: “We live in a world of small wheels, cars sitting high to package the battery, and that look like they were designed in a wind tunnel to maximise the range. We will do the opposite – vehicles that can create an emotional and visceral reaction with the driver. It needs to be a great driver’s car, but one you can drive mile after mile without it being draining, and it must be engaging. The chassis people say they have huge scope to make an engaging drive, but it’s got to drive like a Jaguar.”
The brand’s MD has also rejected fears about an electric-only future, confirming that there are no plans to introduce hybrid or ICE powertrains to future Jaguars: “Visceral and emotional is why people buy cars at this price point, powertrain is way down. It’s about the brand, exterior design, interior design, and how the vehicle handles; people aren’t choosing because of the powertrain.”
