Jaguar collection goes to auction

05 May 2025 | Market News

When a ten-car private collection from Scotland heads to auction with H&H on Wednesday, May 21st, no fewer than five lots will be from the Jaguar stable.

Described as the ‘Loch Lomond Collection’, the Jaguars will go under the hammer at H&H's auction held at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.

The Jaguar with the highest pre-sale estimate is a 1960 XK150 S 3.8 FHC, guided at £90,000-£110,000. One of just 150 right-hand drive examples of its type, this Cotswold Blue stunner benefits from having been extensively restored by Jaguar specialists M&C Wilkinson. This particular car dates from the short-lived 3.8-litre version’s debut year, launching in a choice of SE or S spec – the latter producing a mighty 260bhp to ensure storming performance.

If you prefer your XKs a little earlier, then the 1952 XK120 Roadster from the same collection should appeal. This interesting example has been uprated for fast road or classic rallying use and is estimated at £55,000-£65,000. Originally destined for the US market, chassis number 671921 received a full body-off restoration by Sargent Metalworks of Vermont between 1989 and ’94, with almost $60,000 lavished on it. The car remained in the US until 2015, when it was repatriated to the UK. It comes with a large history file that includes Jaguar chassis records as well as invoices and photographs from the restoration.

A brace of E-Types from the same collection comprises a 1970 E-Type 4.2 Coupe, estimated at £60,000-£70,000 and said by the vendor to be the best-driving classic car he has ever experienced, and a 1973 Series III – one of 1872 right-hand drive V12 roadsters, estimated at £70,000-£80,000.

The only Jaguar saloon offered is a 1962 Mk2 3.8, a real eye-catcher thanks to its Opalescent Dark Green paintwork with contrasting cream leather interior. Restored and upgraded to the highest standards by JD Classics, this ultimate Mk2 is guided at a realistic sounding £40,000-£50,000.

All lots will be available to view at the Pavilion Gardens from midday on Tuesday, May 20th and from 9am on Wednesday, May 21st. The sale will commence at 12.00pm that same day. Anyone looking to bid can do so in person, online, by phone or via a commission bid. For more details of the auction, go to www.handh.co.uk.
