This 1965 E-type Series I 4.2 FHC (chassis number 1E20384) is currently on the market with Vintage & Prestige Classic Cars. It was ordered new by His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, who took delivery in April ’65 and had the car delivered to Germany, where he was serving in the armed forces with the 11th Hussars. It’s thought that the proud owner regularly saw an indicated 150mph on Germany’s autobahns.
Adding to the history of the car was one occasion when Prince Michael of Kent drove a lap of the Goodwood race circuit with the now-current Lord March – who was just eight years old at the time – in the passenger seat. Among the extensive paperwork still with the car is a photograph of a somewhat older Lord March lapping Goodwood with HRH at the wheel during the 2011 Goodwood Revival.
The E-type comes with an extensive collection of correspondence from both Kensington Palace and Lord March, to add to its provenance. Richard Biddulph of Vintage & Prestige states: “Being of a personal nature, the correspondence with the Prince and Lord March is being kept private and will only be released to the next owner rather than being available for general public viewing.”
The E-Type, finished in its original colour of Opalescent Dark Green, still has its Webasto sunroof and front badge bar, as featured in period photographs of the car provided by Prince Michael. The matching-numbers survivor is described as being in “impeccable order throughout”, and also benefits from a recent full engine rebuild.
So, to revisit our original question, what can you expect to pay for an E-type with not only Royal Family connections but also a link to Lord March of Goodwood fame? According to Vintage & Prestige, a cool £245,000. To find out more, visit www.vandp.net.
