The recent Flight of Elegance Historics auction at Farnborough International saw a wide range of Jaguars cross the block, fetching prices from £5,000 to in excess of
£50,000.
The 1960s were well represented with a trio of MkIIs as well as a Series 1 ½ E-Type, and a ’69 Series MkII E-Type fixed head coupe. Lot 250, a 1964 3.8 litre MkII sold for £18,876, while a restored ’63 MkII fetched £19,162. A 1974 Series III V12 E-Type fetched £56,056 after being offered without reserve, while a second Series III was sold for an undisclosed fee. Other Jaguars from the 1970s included a 1972 Series I XJ6 with just 17,300 miles from new. which looked like a great buy at £16,588.
A race-ready 1970 E-Type Semi-lightweight Evocation sold for just under £39,000, having been built and raced in Scotland in 2012 and 2013 before being put into
storage until last summer. Three XJS Convertibles were offered for sale, from 1989, 1990 and 1993 with the ’89 example selling for £12,000.
More recent Jaguars included a 2003 4.2 litre XJR, that despite its 165,000 miles looked a clean example and certainly affordable at £5,434. A lower-mileage ’08 XJR sold for £18,000. With 53,000 miles on the clock, it also featured heated and cooled front seats, heated front windscreen and uprated sound system and just two former keepers. The sale also included the car’s cherished registration, XJ08 XJR.
A 2014 F-Type in R Spec sold for £34,000, the 542bhp, eight-speed auto had less than 34,000 miles on the clock with a stack of history and invoices to boot. The newest car in the auction was a 2016 F-Type 3.0 Coupe. Finished in grey with a black leather interior, this F-Type, with 40,000 miles on the clock is equipped with manual transmission and a spec list that included satellite navigation, parking sensors, dual zone climate control and a dual exhaust. It sold for £20,592.
