With a record season score of 368 points, the result marks Jaguar’s first World Championship win since 1991. Evans and fellow team member, Nick Cassidy, finished second and third respectively in the Drivers’ World Championship.
The wins came via the IâTYPE 6, hailed by Jaguar as “the world’s most technically advanced allâelectric singleâseat race car”, powering Evans and Cassidy to a season total of four wins, 14 podiums, seven fastest laps and four pole.
After the season finale, James Barclay, managing director of JLR Motorsport and Jaguar TCS Racing’s team principal, said: “Jaguar has a rich racing history, and when we started our Formula E programme back in 2016 we were determined to add to that legacy. To win the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship – the pinnacle of electric racing – is fitting reward for everyone’s hard work and winning mindset.”
Both Jaguar drivers lost out to Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein for the Driver Championship, leading to Evans’ claim that his team was working against him. Wehrlein entered the final race of the Formula E season three points ahead of Evans and four ahead of Cassidy, but started behind both of his rivals. Cassidy led from pole, with Evans moving up to second at the start. According to Autosport magazine, he was then told by the Jaguar team to make a gap for his team-mate ahead early in proceedings, allowing Cassidy to take his first Attack Mode activation without losing position.
“I feel a bit blindsided to be honest, compared to what was discussed before the race… and what was voiced to me was really surprising and disappointing,” Evans later told Autosport. “I was told we could race freely but that was clearly not the case and that’s what’s cost me the World Championship today. Obviously, I didn’t want to do that but I was forced to, which was never part of any plan, so you can imagine what was going through my head. There’ll be discussions.”
