Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans now leads the Formula E World Championship after finishing second and fourth after a successful weekend at the Monaco E-Prix.
Evans now enjoys a 19 point lead over second-placed Oliver Rowland, while Jaguar TCS Racing lead the Team Championship by 24 points from Porsche Formula E Team.
“To take the championship lead is a great feeling, although there’s still a long way to go” Evans told the Formula E website. “Our general pace has been strong. A bit of work to do for that, but in general just to get 18 points is great for our championship.”
The weekend could have been even better for Jaguar, as Evans’ teammate, Antonio Felix Da Costa battling for third place with just three laps to go before being taken out of the race.
“First of all, Monaco’s delivered another thrilling race ‑ albeit one of contrasting outcomes for us,” said Team Principal Ian James. “Strategically the team were decisive. We were bold with Antonio, taking Attack early and Pit Boost late ‑ adopting the opposite strategy with Mitch. With five laps to go, that decisiveness had worked ‑ Mitch was running P2 and Antonio P4, both clearly in very strong positions. A double podium was on.”
“That’s an incredibly frustrating way to finish what had been a positive race ‑ and an almost certain podium,” noted Da Costa. “You’ll have seen the penalty for Dan [Ticktum], but that’s doesn’t get me back any points ‑ my race was ruined. But I have a fast car ‑ and I know I am fast around these streets. Tomorrow I’ll be back fighting hard.”
Da Costa would be proven right in Sunday’s race with a third-placed finish, while Evans finished fourth.
The Kiwi driver is to leave Jaguar TCS Racing at the end of the season and will be keen to maintain the strong points haul the team has enjoyed over recent rounds of the championship, moving the team into contention for both the Drivers and Teams championships.
Evans has enjoyed a genuine change of fortunes this year, already surpassing his point total from 2025 with 7 races still remaining.
The Championship heads to Asia next for the Sanya Street race on the 20th of June before heading to Shanghai Internation Circuit a day later.
