Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022 RIP

'I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong’ – Queen Elizabeth II

This month has felt a little different across the Jaguar world. The passing of Her Majesty the Queen has certainly had a huge impact on the JDC and its members and on behalf of us all, we offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family at this sad time. There can’t be many members, if any, who have not been touched by The Queen and her radiant presence at some time in their lives. Some have been privileged to actually meet her, while others were lucky enough to see her from a distance, but even if the closest we’ve been to our Sovereign is a television screen, the impression she made remains the same. Few, if any, have dedicated so much of their lives to the service of others and for that we are eternally grateful.

As the year draws to a close, we are coming to the end of our events calendar. Between Silverstone Classic, JDHT Jaguar Day at Gaydon and Statfold, the last month has been quite a busy one. Our Areas and Registers have been very active and the Hampton Court Concours of Elegance has been yet another great success.

October leads us to our twice-yearly Jaguar Spares Day at Stoneleigh Park, with more than 200 stalls, from the UK and abroad, all under cover and in heated halls. Regular stallholders range from established major Jaguar parts suppliers and restoration specialists to replica manufacturers and private garage clearances. Amongst the thousands of visitors are an ever-increasing number from Europe and further afield. They can find parts for the full range of Jaguar and Daimler models of all ages, for routine servicing and maintenance and for major restorations. Many stalls are taken by enthusiasts clearing out their garages of miscellaneous spares. To book a stall, please go to www.jaguarsparesdays.co.uk and fill in the booking form or, if you’re coming to buy and to browse, buy a ticket on the day for £10.

To close the year, we will be attending the Lancaster Classic Motor Show at the NEC, Birmingham. This is the biggest and best show of the year, with thousands of cars, traders and autojumble stalls offering everything you could ever need for your classic. The Jaguar Drivers’ Club will be in Hall 1 this year to hold the 2022 Champion of Champions concours to find the UK’s most outstanding Jaguar or Daimler, with prizegiving on Saturday 12 November. Essen – Techo Classica - Essen Germany
12 - 16 April 2023

We have decided to resurrect the Club’s annual visit to Techno Classica in Essen, Germany, – Europe’s largest classic car show – for April 2023. We missed the last three years because of Covid so we feel it’s time to return. Leaving the UK on 11 April, we will be travelling by coach with a first night’s stop in Bruges for some sightseeing, followed by a three-night stop in Gelsenkirchen, returning on the 15th. The trip, which comprises four nights’ half-board accommodation in four-star hotels and admission costs to Techno Classica, will cost less than £750 per person based on two people sharing. For a booking form and a full itinerary, please email or phone 01582 419332.

JDHT Breakfast Club

Jaguars are for driving and we always enjoy seeing members' photographs of their Jaguars on tour, both in the Jaguar Driver magazine and on our popular Facebook Page. Here's a wonderful picture on the Isle of Mull from Peter Simpson (organiser of the monthly Jaguar Breakfast meetings) who bravely took his Series 3 E-type for a one-thousand-mile tour of the Scottish Highlands following many months of recommissioning. We're happy to report that Peter's E-type performed perfectly!

Behind the Scenes... Part 1

The Jaguar Drivers’ Club started out in the late 50’s from a group of XK120 owners that wanted to get together and modify their cars and race them. Things haven’t changed much in the intervening 66 years, just like todays modifying scene the modifications were cosmetic and mechanical. They could have only dreamed about some of the modifications you could do today, and the amount of power generated but the ideas came from the same starting point, wanting to make the car their own and the best it could be.

At the start of this year, we sponsored a Jaguar F-type customisation to make the car look like a coupe version of the Project 7 which Jaguar produced themselves in small numbers but only as a convertible. This was featured in our February 2022 magazine. We have now turned our attention to a Jaguar saloon and will be covering the transformation of an XF.

The car started life as a 2009 XF-R in black. Plenty powerful enough for many and with a visual appeal out of the factory that many would feel suits its stock power of 503bhp from its 5.0 v8 engine. The owner of this car, who bought it in 2015 as a non-runner decided that he wanted something a little different, something that stands out and faster than the rest of the pack, a bit like the guys back in 1956. The first step was to upgrade the car to the facelift look.

Sadly the rest of the project didn’t really get started as the owner sadly passed away shortly after. As a tribute to his old friend Dud Ginn has decided that he would make a car that would make his friend proud. So far he has added the RS style body kit that you see in the pictures here and resprayed the car from its original black to the French Racing Blue. This colour has been generally reserved by Jaguar recently for its RS models. In addition to that there has been more power added through a remap and custom exhaust. Quite a beast so far then.

But that wasn’t enough, with the sponsorship of the Jaguar Drivers’ Club and others the plan is to really push this car. The plan is to get it to over 700bhp, over a 40% rise from stock. To handle that its going to need some big brakes so they are in the plan, its going to need some very wide wheels so the wheel from the Project 8 will be fitted giving over 300mm of rubber. To accommodate these in the arches this will be the first XF to feature a proper metal fabricated wide bodyshell. If that is not enough there will be some addition of carbon fibre trim on the wheel arches and front splitter and there will be work on the interior to feature a carbon steering wheel, customised dashboard and embroidered seats.

The journey starts now and we will be covering the progress in the newsletter and doing a final reveal feature in the club magazine when the car has been signed off and ready for its life as a promotional vehicle moving forward proudly displaying the Jaguar Drivers Club livery.
